There are many folks out there like me. Middle-aged, overweight, and out of shape who want to change their situation. There are no shortage of blogs detailing younger folks who are in decent shape trying to get into better shape. I’m starting from way outside the curve and working my way back. Perhaps something I’ve gone through will help someone else down their own path to health and fitness.
What does your wife think of all this midlife crisis stuff?
Well, it beats a total mental breakdown, a divorce, and a young trophy wife. Also, Ferraris are expensive. A new bike and some running shoes tend to be significantly cheaper than Italian sports cars. Plus, I tend to do more laundry trying to keep my biking and running gear clean.
What kind of bikes do you ride?
My bikes are both made by Specialized. My road bike is an Allez. My mountain bike is a Hardrock that was previously a rental bike with those sweet 29” tires.
Since you listed reading as one of your hobbies. What have you read that keeps you motivated?

Barefoot Running Step By Step
Do you have a training partner?
My faithful dog Skye occasionally trains with me on runs and some rides. She’s a pound pup we adopted several years ago. I’m working on getting some actual humans out there with me.
Do you run/bike in races?
I don’t race my bikes…yet. I do have a couple of running races planned in the next few months. Stay tuned for reports once I finish those goals.
